Multiple changes have been made to our website over the last few weeks. The changes are intended to make navigation of the site easier, so that visitors can easily find the content they are looking for. Because we have re-named some pages, you might find "broken links" in which you will get an error message when clicking a link. If you find any of these "broken links" please bring them to our attention by e-mailing info@nokill-louisville.com. Thank you very much!

This story is definitely worth sharing! I am so happy that the mayor of Taylorsville, KY is addressing the town's unowned cat overpopulation problem through trap-neuter-return (TNR). TNR is an effective and humane way to stabilize a cat colony. And guess what, TNR is also one very important step towards No Kill.
(If the news video does not appear below, click here to watch it)
Way to go, Mayor Don Pay! And a big thanks to Alley Cat Advocates, based here in Louisville, for making it all possible.
Want to learn more about TNR and how it is effective? Click here to watch a short but very informative video

Did you know that new Hope Fund animals are added to our website nearly every week? You can see a list of most of the animals the Hope Fund has helped by clicking here. There have been many new additions in a short time, including Wylie Kylie, Victoria, Reese, Abby, and Herb.
For an extra feel-good, check out our Hope Springs Eternal page. You can see the happy endings of our Hope Fund animals once they have been adopted.
Thanks again for your continuous support of the Hope Fund!
Oh! Speaking of Hope, be sure to pick up a copy of Louisville Tails magazine! They are free and can be found at hundreds of locations all over the city. Guess who is gracing this month's cover? Hope the superstar! Check out this amazing article written by No Kill Louisville's very own Jessica Reid. (You might want to have some tissues handy, because it really is an incredible story).

Our Fellow Animal Lovers!
It might not feel like it, but spring is just around the corner...which means it's gonna be raining cats and dogs soon! Warmer temperatures mean optimal conditions for romantic evenings for our outdoor companions. Romantic evenings lead to offspring, and countless animals end up being killed, just because there aren't enough homes. Never forget, prevention is the best medicine!
Not only have we started our own initiative, 28 Days of Spay, but their are TONS of other organizations that offer low cost options. If you or someone you know are low income, or just need assistance in spaying or neutering your companion animal, please take advantage of these wonderful programs here. Keep in mind, the S.N.I.P. clinic offers FREE Pit Bull spay/neuters, and very cheap Feral Cat Packages at $40! Tell all your friends!
And if you live in Southern Indiana, Sharon at Woodstock North will be glad to assist you in low cost options. Their number is (812) 282-8059.
More spays, less killing. It's that simple

Hello NKL'ers!!
You all may have already heard of Goodsearch.com, but if you haven't, here's a quick explanation: Goodsearch.com is an online search engine like Google, but with a twist. Every search raises money for a charity! You have control over which registered charity you would like to raise money for in your searches. And, you guessed it, No Kill Louisville is now a registered charity!
This has the potential to be tremendously successful for NKL. But we need as many people as possible to use Goodsearch and to name No Kill Louisville as their charity of choice. Please share this with your friends and family and encourage them to support NKL in this very easy way, and encourage them to pass this on to their friends & family as well. The Goodsearch website also has tips on how to spread the word. Take a look at the "toolbar" that you can download to your web browser. That way, you will never forget to use Goodsearch for all your internet searches!
No Kill Louisville is also registered with Goodshop.com and iGive.com - both sites will donate a percentage of your online purchases at hundreds of partner stores, like Amazon.com, Best Buy, etc. etc. to your charity of choice. Another easy way to help NKL while doing things you already do!
And last but definitely not least, we are proud to be Coco's Canine Cookies' designated charity! 20% of all purchases will benefit NKL. Yummy treats for your dog AND a donation to No Kill Louisville?? What could be better than that! Click here to visit the Coco's Canine Cookie's website!
Thank you for helping us get the word out!

Hello everyone!
Stay tuned, our blog is about to become more active. You should see some new posts trickling in over the next week or so, while our new bloggers get their feet wet. Or, maybe they will just dive right in, which is totally fine with us.
We are excited to shake the dust off of this blog and re-connect with you, our community, in more depth. Facebook is a great way to connect with the community, but it still leaves something to be desired. We know that a blog will allow us to express ourselves in more than just a few sentences. And it can be updated often without overwhelming your Facebook newsfeed! Don't worry though - we will not be abandoning Facebook.
Have you explored our website lately? We are adding new pages and info all the time, so keep checking back. Today's project was an adoption map. Did you know there are over 30 locations in Kentuckiana where you can go visit adoptable animals? There are! You can see them here:
Interested in adopting? Head on over to an adoption site near you - even if it's "just to look". ![]()

Last Chance Highway, a new series on Animal Planet is set to air it's first episode on Saturday, June 19 at 8pm ET/PT. This new show will focus on a small group of dog rescuers in the Southeastern U.S who save homeless and unwanted dogs and help them find wonderful homes through cross-country transport. The rescuers featured in the show include Shelly Bookwalter, a real estate agent who rescues dogs in all of her spare time and pays for their vet care out-of-pocket, and Kyle Peterson, the owner and operator of a commercial pet transport service. Bookwalter and Peterson, along with several others, work together to make new lives for dogs in need.
This show will bring much needed attention to the animal rescue world. Many people have never heard of rescue transport, even though it plays a crucial role in saving the lives of thousands of animals each year. Last Chance Highway gives viewers a chance to see this world up close and personal. Be sure to watch (or set your DVR and watch later!) this Saturday, June 19 at 8pm ET. After you've seen the episode, come back to NKL's website to comment and discuss with fellow viewers.
For more infomation on Last Chance Highway, visit www.AnimalPlanet.com.

Leo Weekly recently did an article concerning the new adoption center being built to ease some of the strain on the staff and animals at Louisville Metro Animal Services, the city-run shelter. It's incredible what the staff there has done in the few months since the defunct director resigned.
This article is a little harsh given that building and planning the adoption center was under the former leadership. However, it does make a few good points. I also call into question quoting a past director in that no one asked how many animals were dying while he was in charge.
As you know, No Kill Louisville does not believe that killing animals equals success. Challenging the status quo and *helping* the staff and animals at the shelter is the only path to a No Kill community.
I am quoted in this article. I do support the shelter fully and completely - but only because those working there are now working toward a better environment and approach for the animals. They are making strides and this effort should not be ignored.
Having said that - here is the article:

"I’ve always wanted to help but never knew where to start. I can’t wait for my first mission!!"
~ Sheridan Lynn
Became a transports volunteer in May 2010
Hi everyone,
Yesterday I put out the word on our FaceBook that some transport help was needed at Louisville Metro Animal Services, the city-run shelter. Several dogs were going to a rescue but they needed a ride to get there.
We received quite a response. People wanted to help and offered to help as they were able.
It was proof positive of something I believe wholeheartedly - that people can't do anything to save more animals if you don't tell them you need a hand.
In fact, one of the many who offered to lend a hand was connected to another group that needed transport help after our first request was filled.
Sheridan Lynn sent me this short note:
"I’ve always wanted to help but never knew where to start. I can’t wait for my first mission!!"
It really touched me and made me remember that the key to No Kill success is simple - ask for help.
So, we're asking on behalf of the animals. Please look at our immediate needs section and other programs. If something doesn't appeal to you, there's probably something not listed. Just email me at JessicaReid@nokill-louisville.com, and I'll find a way for you to take part that fits your skills and personality.
Remember - continue to ask. Spread the word and ask others to help! If we all lend a hand, not only will you be fulfilled by the love animals give in return BUT you'll make some great friends along the way and find that it's not so hard when we're all helping out.
With love and joy to you each,
Jessica Reid
President, No Kill Louisville
p.s. Can you volunteer or foster next week?
