Are These Animals Invisible?

In many shelters across the nation, a startling trend is affecting certain pets. Although cats are victims as well as dogs, it has been coined "Black Dog Syndrome". Dark-colored animals are usually the last to find homes in shelters, especially big, ordinary-looking dogs and virtually any black cat. In shelter facilities with poor lighting, the eye of adopters easily travels right over these animals and on to their flashier friends. Stereotypes and superstitions also plague these animals. A black cat crossing your path is sure to bring bad luck, and a big black dog must be a bad omen, right??

It's time to "start seeing black dogs" (and cats!) !
