NKL's Pet Friendly Housing Guide
Intended use of this document: Do you feel overwhelmed in your search for a place to live where your pets will be welcome? This guide will help focus your search because much of the research has been done for you by our volunteers! The ultimate goal of this guide is to keep pets with their families despite a move, and therefore keep pets out of our local shelters. We can move one step closer to a No Kill community by decreasing shelter intake through proactive pet retention programs, and we are pleased to provide this ?Pet Friendly Housing Guide" as a resource.
This is only a guide. This information can change at any time. Contact an apartment complex directly to confirm its accuracy.
This is not a complete list! Our volunteers worked diligently to survey every Louisville-area apartment complex about its pet policies. Unfortunately, contact could not be made with every housing office. Managers may submit information to firstname.lastname@example.org in order to add or edit a listing.
A note about breed restrictions: When asked of any breed restrictions, many housing agencies informed our volunteers that no ?aggressive breeds? were permitted. This can mean very different things from one apartment to the next. Contact the housing office to verify that your dog(s) will be allowed. For the record, NKL does not agree with nor endorse the assumption that any individual dog is dangerous or aggressive because of its breed. Apartment managers that shift away from this mentality allow these persecuted breeds greater opportunities for adoption and life. We aim to compile resources for managers as an extension of this project. Apartments that already understand the inaccuracies of judging a dog based on its breed are featured in the above guide.
Special thanks to Nicole, Jeanne, Christie, Seana, Gail, Madee, Tonya, Annette, and Mary Anne for volunteering their time on this project. It simply would not have happened without your help!
How to navigate the guide: For your convenience, we have highlighted a few listings which have unusually friendly pet policies, whether they offer waived fees for adopted pets, allow three or more pets, welcome many breeds, or exhibit another hard-to-find policy. You may also use the ?find? feature (CTRL+F for PC, Command+F for Mac) to search for a particular zip code or other information. You will also be able to zoom-in on the document for easier reading. Cat-only listings are located at the top of the spreadsheet. Apartments are listed in alphabetical order.
